Camping on Byangee Walls |
June 21, 2009 |
Originally we organised an easy trip out to the Starlights Trail for this weekend, but in the end we made a last minute decision to head down to The Budawangs and try to summit Byangee Walls. Three of us headed out on Friday after work. It wasn't a trip with a lot of walking, but it was very demanding on all of us!
All of the photos can be found here

Byangee Mountain |
November 10, 2008 |
This weekend I took a walk out to Byangee Mountain. It is has been on the list to investigate for some time, and plan a multi day hike around so on Saturday I set out to climb at least the first section of the trail.

The Castle Wins Again |

Another hike in the Budawangs, this time we went into Monolith, climbed Mount Owen, tried to get to the top of Shrouded Gods, and I whimped out of the ascent of The Castle!
The trip report is here.
All the photos can be found here.

Remember the Anzacs |
May 11, 2008 |
It was Anzac weekend, and another opportunity for me to get out on a Solo hike in Kosiuszko national park. My plan for this weekend was to attempt an off track section following the Tooma river across Ryries Parlour to Pretty Plain.
The trip report can be found on hikeoz here.

Solo adventure |
December 11, 2007 |
I have been promising myself for a long time that I would take off into the wilderness by myself for a few days. Well I have finally done it!! A couple of weekends ago, despite the threatening weather, I took myself off to the Kosciuszko national park for a good walk.
The walk is based off the Jagungal to Geehi walk from hikeoz, except I bypassed Jagungal this time and headed straight for the Bulls peaks.
There is a trip report to come, but for now you can enjoy these amazing photos.
Trip report now available....click more for details

Kosi trip in October! |
October 26, 2007 |
A large group of us headed down to Kosi in October for a change. Partly because we were helping our mate Richard train for Nepal, and partly because we love the place!

Starlight Starbright |
September 02, 2007 |
The Starlights trail is located not far from Wollongong, but is a trail that we had never explored before. So not knowing what to expect, we headed up the mountain early on Friday afternoon. To our surprise, we arrived at the park entry after only an hour of driving! Although we were told there was no camping at the park gate, we found a sufficiently flat area only 20 metres inside the park.

A wet weekend |
August 19, 2007 |
Yes this weekend we decided to hit the mountains and forge a new trail through the australian bush. Unforunately we were beaten by the weather and the terrain!! But we did have a great time trying to conqure a new trail.
Photos from the trip are here.
We were using this trip from Hike Oz, but it needs a little adjusting before it is used by anyone else!!
Read the report and find out how much trouble we had!

Triton in Deua |
August 10, 2007 |
All the trip photos can be found here.
After struggling for four weeks trying to get the last few things sorted out on the new Triton, I decided it was time for a test trip. Still need’s some work, but enough is done to verify its ability! Destination: Bendethra!
I managed to leave the office on schedule at 3:30pm, and headed up the mountain and on to Goulburn. The larger tyres and new computer seem to have had a large effect on fuel economy, I was getting 9.1L/100km before, now it looks like I’m getting closer to 11L/100km!!! I’ll wait and see how that pans out though, takes a little while for the economy stats to level out.

Easter Kosi Hiking - Brassys and Kerries |
April 08, 2007 |
You can find all the trip photos here
Once again it is Easter time and our annual pilgrimage to Kosciuszko National Park is on the agenda. We have a new hiker coming along with us this time, and Richard really doesn’t know what he is in for!!
The trip is a little different again from the last two years, we are aiming to negotiate the Brassy Ridge and the Kerrie’s. We are not going to hard this time around, as we want to be able to take it easy and soak up the amazing atmosphere of our best national park.

Budawangs IV - Quiltys Mountain |
March 03, 2007 |
You can find all the trip photos here
After inviting a large number of people on this weekend’s trip to The Budawangs, once again it was down to just me and Eddy. Not that people weren’t interested in walking with us, but of course they simply have their priorities wrong!
Prior to leaving we check all the forecasts and warnings for the area we are travelling to. Once again the weekend forecast was for a few showers, but this usually means nothing in the areas we walk, read on to find out what a few showers means in a rain forest!

Budawangs III - The Castle |
November 05, 2006 |
You can find all the trip photos here
A spur of the moment decision for us to take another trip into The Budawangs!! This time we took the entrance from the Ulladulla side, and headed into The Castle area.
Eddy, myself and money headed into the park after a day of heavy rain!! Yes the first rain we have had here in about six months! But like most of our hiking and camping trips, the weather sorted itself out and we had a great weekend of walking up hill. We met some interesting people, and were passed by many day walkers that looked like they would have had trouble finding their way out of the car park!
There is much more to this story as always, so please read on...

Pretty Plain, Or Pretty Spectacular??? |
April 16, 2006 |
You can find all the trip photos here
Well it’s been almost a year since my inaugural hike into the Kosciusko National Park. I now have a total of three hikes under my belt so we decided it was once again time to take the long drive south and head into the countries biggest park. Our target this year was to walk right the way down the Pretty Plain valley, and then on to a climb of Mount Jugungal (2062m). Easter weekend was always going to be a busy time to do this trek, but we needed a full four days of walking to ensure we had time to complete the huge target. An estimate of 60km walking, on about a 50/50 split between track walking and off track walking. After soliciting several people that we thought might be interested in this hike, when it finally came down to making a commitment, it was only Eddy and I that could step up to the plate! This is our story…

Budawangs II - The Wrath Of Burumbeet |
July 18, 2005 |
You can find all the trip photos here.
One more attempt to conquer The Budawangs and the Burumbeet valley. I must remember though that next time Mark wants to go hiking in the Budawangs, I’m going to be busy!!
Day 1:
Early start for this trip, Mark and Doug came past my place at 6:45am. We transferred all the gear into my truck and then head off to the park. After a quick stop at Nowra for some fresh bread and then it was on to Turpentine road. Ooops, there goes our turn off!! We eventually got to Wog Wog camp site and ready to hit the track.
We left Wog Wog at about 9:25am on a perfect morning for walking, the sun was warm, the skies were clear and there was no wind to be spoken of. Our first issue was the amount of rain that had fallen over the last few days, which raised Wog Wog creek to a much higher level than what we had expected! No longer was it a hop skip and a jump across the water. We moved up the creek and found a log to cross, after I took my first spill!

Gold Coast Again |
May 06, 2005 |
Another short and sweet trip to the Gold Coast with Darren, for yet another EGM with Revetec.
We managed to get some free lodgings this time with Darrens cousin Merle. She made us feel very welcome, making us breakfast, dinner, providing snacks and even some animal entertainment!
The usual result at the Casino though, with me losing my shirt and Darren amazingly losing money this time too! Those permanent shufflers are no way to play black jack!
Unfortunately the weather was pretty ordinary, so not many photos this time round.

Snowy Mountain Hike - The Tale Of A Novice Hiker |
May 04, 2005 |
You can find all the trip photos here
For many years (well a few anyway) I have prepared for this day. I made sure I bought the best quality hikers tent, and the best quality sleeping bag, all in the preparation for strapping these things on my back and heading for the hills. Well after that I bought a four wheel drive and the hiking aspirations were quenched by the smell of diesel fumes and a 12 volt fridge! But just recently, the hiking urge was stirred in me once again. Given the opportunity to spend three days walking around the gentle slopes of the Snowy Mountains got me very excited. So excited that I actually committed to this expedition, long before I was fully aware of the consequences! The following words are a journal of the trip, the highs and lows of my experience, the novice hiker.

March Holiday Madness |
April 04, 2005 |
March 18th – March 28th All Photos Here
What better reason to take a break from work than to show an overseas friend around the wonderful sights of Sydney. Kathy arrived from Missouri, having never left the US before, early Friday morning March 18th. Prior to arrival, a detailed Itinerary had been discussed and planned! The following report is a very brief summary of what we got up to, and should be read in conjunction with the rather large photo collection that was created during her stay.

Camping at One Tree |
February 26, 2005 |
More trip photos and camping photos here.
Well the week had been pretty standard up until Thursday morning. Prior to this though, I had decided to take a day off on Friday and head off camping Thursday night, to One Tree. So after being told on Thursday morning that our office was going to be closing in July, there was no reason to net get away from the office nice and early :)
The run down to Jervis Bay was quick, no traffic on the road, although I did need to make a stop along the way at home as I had forgotten to take my camera lenses! But it is along the way so no harm!
I lef the office about 3pm, and arrived at the camp site at 5pm. The track to the cam site is about 3km long and is sometimes difficult to traverrse due to rain. Well there was a little water this time, but nothing major and I got to the waters edge without any issues. The only problems were due to the abundant undergrowth encroaching on the track!

Christmas Camping Trip |
December 29, 2004 |
24th December 2004
Trip started at midday, and I had the car packed ready to head up to the mountains to visit sam and the family of Carrolls. I stopped off at Darrens to exchange the same gift!
I arrived at Sams at 3pm, as there was very little traffic. However, there was quite a bit of rain and at times it was so bad that I had to pull off the road!

Gold Coast Trip For AGM |
November 28, 2004 |
DAY ONE
When the announcement from Revetec that their AGM this year was going to be on Queenslands Gold Coast, we all thought how stupid! But after a day or two, Darren realised that this gave him the perfect opportunity for getting the KMs up on his car before the end of the FBT financial year!! After all, its only 1000km each way, its not like its on the other side of the country!
So on Thursday 25th November, 4:15pm, we left the office on our way to Surfers Paradise!

Kanangra Boyd NP |
August 30, 2004 |
DAY ONE
It sounded like a good idea. After a stressful week at work, which saw more problems with my laptop, my project canceled and further difficulties with my builder, the best thing to do would be to knock off early on friday and head to the hills! But after a rather difficult start to the day, I ended up leaving Wollongong around 4pm. 45 minutes later I was talking to a police office and explaining to him that it was the angle of the sun that affected my braking distance and not the fact that I had been drinking and driving! Yes, I finally had another car accident. This was the first since "The Big One" back in 1989!! So I cant complain, and thanks to the 200KG of steel bolted to the front end of my car, I only broke a couple of headlight protectors and a number plate, on my car! In front of me was a rather mangled Ford Telstar and a Suzuki swift with a swinging bumper!
