Pawson Wedding Day |
May 20, 2006 |
LOTS MORE photos can be found here
Just a week ago now, and one of the highlights of the year, Darren and Tanya's wedding day. I don't have too many pictures up here yet, I'm waiting for Darren to get back so he can sort through the masses of photos before I 'publish' too many.
The day was amazing with pretty much everything going perfectly to plan. The weather could have been a little better, with the girls getting pretty cold by the end of the photo sessions! But had the storm clouds not rolled in, we wouldn't have been able to get so many amazing photos!

The Grange |
April 30, 2006 |
With the season now into it's fourth round, this years Club Sand Wedge golf tournament is hotting up to be one of the best!
I'm only say this because right now the leader of the table is ME!! Not sure how long that will last though, since anyone down to about 8th position could catch and pass me with one bad round on my behalf!
Check out the current leader board here
My photos from the last round can be found here

Pretty Plain, Or Pretty Spectacular??? |
April 16, 2006 |
You can find all the trip photos here
Well it’s been almost a year since my inaugural hike into the Kosciusko National Park. I now have a total of three hikes under my belt so we decided it was once again time to take the long drive south and head into the countries biggest park. Our target this year was to walk right the way down the Pretty Plain valley, and then on to a climb of Mount Jugungal (2062m). Easter weekend was always going to be a busy time to do this trek, but we needed a full four days of walking to ensure we had time to complete the huge target. An estimate of 60km walking, on about a 50/50 split between track walking and off track walking. After soliciting several people that we thought might be interested in this hike, when it finally came down to making a commitment, it was only Eddy and I that could step up to the plate! This is our story…

Melbourne 2006 |
April 01, 2006 |
Well another year and another melbourne GP is over. There was a large contigent from the heathcote and pawson familes make the trip south. Mark, Darren, Tanya, Graham, Janita, Sarah and Benjamin! We were very kindly put up by a friend of the pawson family, and they were way too good to us while we were there!
Mark and I went to the track on Saturday with Benjamin to watch the preliminaries. I had forgotten how cold Melbourne can be! It was freezing, and wet too! Benjamin managed to fall asleep and we wrapped him in a tarp to stay dry!
On race day, Darren and I made the usual sprint to the fence and managed to get the perfect position again! Weather was great, not too hot and not too cool. The race was very exciting, and we even got to witness a crash right in front of us up against the wall!

Budawangs II - The Wrath Of Burumbeet |
July 18, 2005 |
You can find all the trip photos here.
One more attempt to conquer The Budawangs and the Burumbeet valley. I must remember though that next time Mark wants to go hiking in the Budawangs, I’m going to be busy!!
Day 1:
Early start for this trip, Mark and Doug came past my place at 6:45am. We transferred all the gear into my truck and then head off to the park. After a quick stop at Nowra for some fresh bread and then it was on to Turpentine road. Ooops, there goes our turn off!! We eventually got to Wog Wog camp site and ready to hit the track.
We left Wog Wog at about 9:25am on a perfect morning for walking, the sun was warm, the skies were clear and there was no wind to be spoken of. Our first issue was the amount of rain that had fallen over the last few days, which raised Wog Wog creek to a much higher level than what we had expected! No longer was it a hop skip and a jump across the water. We moved up the creek and found a log to cross, after I took my first spill!

As we all know, our little office here in Wollongong is soon to be closed. So that is a very good reason for a party :)
These are some photos from our latest farewell party held at The Novotel in Wollongong. And yes I DID get the award for "Most likely person to 'waste' their redundancy cheque"!

Snowy Mountain Hike - The Tale Of A Novice Hiker |
May 04, 2005 |
You can find all the trip photos here
For many years (well a few anyway) I have prepared for this day. I made sure I bought the best quality hikers tent, and the best quality sleeping bag, all in the preparation for strapping these things on my back and heading for the hills. Well after that I bought a four wheel drive and the hiking aspirations were quenched by the smell of diesel fumes and a 12 volt fridge! But just recently, the hiking urge was stirred in me once again. Given the opportunity to spend three days walking around the gentle slopes of the Snowy Mountains got me very excited. So excited that I actually committed to this expedition, long before I was fully aware of the consequences! The following words are a journal of the trip, the highs and lows of my experience, the novice hiker.

Birthday Weekend |
March 14, 2005 |
View more photos here.
Yes this weekend was my birthday. I'm not sure which one it is these days, but it is the one after last year, and the one before next year! Anyway, I had a pretty relaxing weekend with nothing too energetic planned. I'd already been out for celebratory dinners during the week, so the weekend was to rest and recover.
Fortuantely the sun shone, so I could spend some time at the beach on Saturday, then sunday I headed up to the mountains to visit Sam and her family. Its a long way to drive for a few hours visiting, but worth it on a day like Sunday.

Camping at One Tree |
February 26, 2005 |
More trip photos and camping photos here.
Well the week had been pretty standard up until Thursday morning. Prior to this though, I had decided to take a day off on Friday and head off camping Thursday night, to One Tree. So after being told on Thursday morning that our office was going to be closing in July, there was no reason to net get away from the office nice and early :)
The run down to Jervis Bay was quick, no traffic on the road, although I did need to make a stop along the way at home as I had forgotten to take my camera lenses! But it is along the way so no harm!
I lef the office about 3pm, and arrived at the camp site at 5pm. The track to the cam site is about 3km long and is sometimes difficult to traverrse due to rain. Well there was a little water this time, but nothing major and I got to the waters edge without any issues. The only problems were due to the abundant undergrowth encroaching on the track!

Stormy Saturday |
February 19, 2005 |
Well I spent most of the morning trying to reinstall windows on my desktop PC. It had become a little unreliable so took advantage of the weekend to get the job done. Well I had no end of trouble, and two installs later, 4am bed time, and much frustration, I finally have it going again!
The trouble maker is the Hauppuage TV card I have installed. It is the main thing I use the PC for, so I had to get it working!
So after I finally got it worted, Kathy convinced me I should leave the house for at least a little while! As it had been a lovely warm morning, with the sun streaming into my office area.
After only a half hour down the beach though, a huge storm rolled in! I got off the beach in time, and was driving around just as the hail started! And this was serious hail! I got the car home covered it up a little, but gave up as I got hit once in the face and one on the hand by large marbles of ice! I havent checked the car yet for dents, but I am sure there will be a few more than the last hail storm :)
And another victim of the storm, was Kathy and Graham Chili :( I watched as their leaves were destroyed by the ice storm right before my very eyes.
There was also lots of thunder and lightning, which I recorded, and when I get some time, I'll get them on the PC and up here on the blog.

February 06, 2005 |
Well who said that plants dont grow while you watch them??? I potted up a couple of chili plants last week, and aptly names them Kathy and Graham. I took a photo after potting, and again this weekend, just seven days later. Check out the growth, and see how dominating Kathy is gettin!! (She's on the left ;)

I live in paradise |
February 05, 2005 |
Well I havent been out driving for a while and when I got up this morning, the day was looking pretty good outside. So I decided to scope out a few of the places that I will be taking Katherine to when she is here. So I decided to head south to Jervis Bay!
There was a couple of places that I wanted to see down there, the first was Greenpatch, where the Kangaroos hop along the beach. The second was Hyams Beach which has some of the whitest sand in the world.
So when I reached Greenpatch I realised it has changed ALOT in the few years since I've been there. It's now very commercial, very busy, and NO kangaroos! So I finished there pretty quickly!
Next stop was Murrays beach, which is a little further into the park, and that too was a little busy. So the next place to go was to Hole In The Wall beach :) Yeah really, there is a hole in the wall!
And of course this was the best of all, and only a couple of people there, beautiful white sand, calm warm waters. So I lay in the sun, swam, watched the birds (you know, the ones with feathers and wings), and just soaked up this little place in paradise!
It makes me think sometimes though that we really dont appreciate the amazing places that we live. I imagine most people have places like this in easy driving distance, but how often do we actually go there? Not often enough I'm sure. Well I'm sure glad I went there today, and in just a few weeks time, we'll be going there again :)

Slowly Moving |
January 30, 2005 |
Well the movement to the new blog format is taking shape. I have all the entries now imported into the MT database. Also played with the template formats so I knew what I was doing for the site face lift.
In between all this, I've been out taking a few pictures this weekend of the local area, the local fauna, and some new shots of the chili plants from eddy.

Australia Day Party |
January 25, 2005 |
Well the day before Australia day we were lucky enough to be provided with the opportunity to leave the office for a while and party down the beach. There was plenty of food, some cricket, frisbee, footy and of course lots of sun!
And being only a few metres from the ocean, there was also plenty of perfect swimming to be had!

I Do I Do |
January 16, 2005 |
So this weekend had a very major event. The wedding of my youngest sister. She was marrying Craig Green, and turning me into the last unwed heathcote in the family!
The weekend went very well, at least it did from our persepctive. I think Sarah was very stressed, but everyone really had a great time and the whole even went perfectly.
The guys came around my place about midday, at which point we put on a movie, and started to relax. Of course the girls had started getting ready at 8:30 with the visit to the hairdresser! We eventually fired up the BBQ and had some lunch, then started getting ready for the wedding at about 2:00pm.
Of course we still managed to get to the church while it was still locked up! My job then was to set my car up at the church that was listed on the invitation, with signs pointing the guest to the correct church!!
The ceremony went perfectly. Which would not have been the case if Sarah had seen the huntsman on the ceiling above her head ;)
The night was then spent partying at the Workers club until middnight. We all had a great time, even Jayden who managed to keep his eyes open pretty much for the whole night!

Happy New Year |
January 01, 2005 |
Well it had to come to an end, and the year of 2004 is now behind us. To see in the new year, Darren and I went up to Wollongong to join the thousands of others partying at Wollongong South Beach. There was a stage with band playing, some rides, and of course, the fireworks!

Christmas Camping Trip |
December 29, 2004 |
24th December 2004
Trip started at midday, and I had the car packed ready to head up to the mountains to visit sam and the family of Carrolls. I stopped off at Darrens to exchange the same gift!
I arrived at Sams at 3pm, as there was very little traffic. However, there was quite a bit of rain and at times it was so bad that I had to pull off the road!

Final Golf Round |
December 12, 2004 |
Golf this week was at Shellharbour Links and in the form of Ambrose. It's a rpetty tough course and Stewart and I were going along pretty well for the frist 5 or 6 holes. We were putting the pressure on the favorites with keeping a par score. But then something happened and we started to slip backwards fast! I think we then put too much pressure on oursevles thinking we were doing badly. But of course that was only doing badly to Darren and Justin who ended up winning by more than 7 strokes!

Christmas Party |
December 05, 2004 |
Party time is upon us, and this weekend was the work party. We had a lot of fun with this one, and with a theme of HAIR, it was up to your imagination on how you dressed up! And Mick actually shaved the top of his head and created the comb over affect! It was quite a brave move!
Not sure what time we finished at the leagues club, but we backed up then to The Oxford and kept going there until we were kicked out at closing. Giving Paul M (aka Phillipe) just enough time to meet wonderful Franchesca!
More photos from the party can be found in the photo album.

Summer in Sydney |
November 14, 2004 |
A quick trip to Sydney this weekend to check out the harbour and take some pics of the Opera House and the Bridge. The weather looks good, but it was blowing a real gale all afternoon!
Once I was done in Sydney, it was off to David and Rachels house warming party where I met some interesting characters.

Birdie Time |
October 31, 2004 |
This weekend was quite a busy one, spending most of Saturday running around the shops. Then in the evening I attended Chris and Yvonnes kitchen warming party.
Golf on Sunday started well, despite the very early morning due to daylight savings kicking in! But once I hit the back nine, it turned out to be a day to forget!! The round was punctated by my first birdie in morden times, and a very good par after hitting a pretty special 5 iron shot!

Weekend Of Activity |
September 26, 2004 |
This weekend was perfect weather, so I thought I would head up to Bowral to check out this years Tulip festival. As usual, it was very busy and very colourful! Good opportunity for me to test out the new camera.
After Saturday at Bowral, it was time to get out to Calderwood for another game of golf for the Sand Wedge golf club. And the days weather could not have been better!

Spring Storms |
September 05, 2004 |
Well only a few days into spring and we had a pretty cool spring storm today. Lots of lightening and thunder, but now the sun is out once again. It describes this weekend quite well. After spending a good day yesterday hiking in the mountains, I walked outside this morning to find out that some young holigans had broken into my car. Fortunately nothing broken, and for some reason nothing of value taken! But makes you wonder why people will risk getting caught for no gain.
Mmmmm, the smell of freshly baking cake is calling me, I must go make sure I dont burn it! Having Bec, Sam and possibly Darren over for dinner tonight with Lasagne on the menu, who could stay away!
Well dinner did go well, I dont have to try hard in the kitchen, I guess some people are blessed with having cooking skills, and some are blessed with eating skills :) Well I am glad I have both!
Thanks Sam and Bec, you know you are welcome anytime, to eat, or to just hang out :)
But still waiting for a tear jerking Idol performance!!

Camping In The Mountains |
August 27, 2004 |
I Finally got away for the weekend, very important to test out the new camera! I managed to see the Walls, the bush, and have a car accident! It was pretty cold with a thick frost on the first night, but beautiful blue skies during the day made up for that.
