A wet weekend |
August 19, 2007 |
Yes this weekend we decided to hit the mountains and forge a new trail through the australian bush. Unforunately we were beaten by the weather and the terrain!! But we did have a great time trying to conqure a new trail.
Photos from the trip are here.
We were using this trip from Hike Oz, but it needs a little adjusting before it is used by anyone else!!
Read the report and find out how much trouble we had!

Triton in Deua |
August 10, 2007 |
All the trip photos can be found here.
After struggling for four weeks trying to get the last few things sorted out on the new Triton, I decided it was time for a test trip. Still need’s some work, but enough is done to verify its ability! Destination: Bendethra!
I managed to leave the office on schedule at 3:30pm, and headed up the mountain and on to Goulburn. The larger tyres and new computer seem to have had a large effect on fuel economy, I was getting 9.1L/100km before, now it looks like I’m getting closer to 11L/100km!!! I’ll wait and see how that pans out though, takes a little while for the economy stats to level out.

Easter Kosi Hiking - Brassys and Kerries |
April 08, 2007 |
You can find all the trip photos here
Once again it is Easter time and our annual pilgrimage to Kosciuszko National Park is on the agenda. We have a new hiker coming along with us this time, and Richard really doesn’t know what he is in for!!
The trip is a little different again from the last two years, we are aiming to negotiate the Brassy Ridge and the Kerrie’s. We are not going to hard this time around, as we want to be able to take it easy and soak up the amazing atmosphere of our best national park.

Time for some more updates |
December 17, 2006 |
It's been quite a while since I regularly updated my weblog here. There has been a very good reason for this, like anything in life! I've been working very hard at Selera for the last few months on a very interesting development project involving address data base searches at Telstra. Well now that job has come to an end, I have a little free time up my sleeve to get back and make some updates here. So to start, I will make a summary of the things I can remember doing over the last few months, with the intent on creating longer and more detailed entries for some of these.

An Aussie Christmas |
December 22, 2005 |
Although I'm making this entry in March 2006, it really is the story of christmas 2005!! I've just been a little busy with all sorts of other things this year so havent made any contribution here since last year.
So for christmas this year, my family all came down to my place and we spent a lovely couple of days hanging out at the beach and testing out my new deck. The weather was much like most of this summer (which has been one of the hotest on record). So we took the whole family down to the beah to cool off.
We also had lunch with everyone on the back deck, there was about 14 of us so it gave everything a good work out. There were no structural or functional complaints :)
For more pictures, select the surfer's above...

Missing Peace |
October 21, 2005 |
While sorting through a bunch of my photos today, I realised that one of my favorite pictures had not made it up on to my website! I have a print of it hanging on my wall at home, one of only three that I have of my own on the wall!! So rather than let it collect 'virtual dust' sitting on my computer, I've have uploaded it to my site for all to see.
Comments and compliments are always welcome....
Of course it is from the Snowy Moutain Hike that we took in April 2005.

Budawangs II - The Wrath Of Burumbeet |
July 18, 2005 |
You can find all the trip photos here.
One more attempt to conquer The Budawangs and the Burumbeet valley. I must remember though that next time Mark wants to go hiking in the Budawangs, I’m going to be busy!!
Day 1:
Early start for this trip, Mark and Doug came past my place at 6:45am. We transferred all the gear into my truck and then head off to the park. After a quick stop at Nowra for some fresh bread and then it was on to Turpentine road. Ooops, there goes our turn off!! We eventually got to Wog Wog camp site and ready to hit the track.
We left Wog Wog at about 9:25am on a perfect morning for walking, the sun was warm, the skies were clear and there was no wind to be spoken of. Our first issue was the amount of rain that had fallen over the last few days, which raised Wog Wog creek to a much higher level than what we had expected! No longer was it a hop skip and a jump across the water. We moved up the creek and found a log to cross, after I took my first spill!

Let the party begin |
March 17, 2005 |
Well Katherine has left her safe haven of Missouri, and is on her way to the not so dry shores of Australia. It is a little unfortunate that the last ten days here have seen blue skies and high temps, but now she's in the air, the forecast has turned to cool, grey and wet for the next week! Oh well, those forecasters are never right anyway!
Flight arrival is scheduled for early tomorrow morning, that will be friday, and just so happens to coincide with my Parents flying out to New Zealand. I didnt tell Katherine this, didn't want to freak her out with the fact that she might be welcomed at the airport by more people than just me! Anyway, I think I have volunteered to go to the airport via my parents place so I can give them a lift. Means levaing home about 5:30am mind you, and a round trip of nearly 300km, but thats what only sons do ;)
So only a day for me to wait for this party to start. I'm hoping that things go smoothly as we have a huge itinerary planned for the visit.

Birthday Weekend |
March 14, 2005 |
View more photos here.
Yes this weekend was my birthday. I'm not sure which one it is these days, but it is the one after last year, and the one before next year! Anyway, I had a pretty relaxing weekend with nothing too energetic planned. I'd already been out for celebratory dinners during the week, so the weekend was to rest and recover.
Fortuantely the sun shone, so I could spend some time at the beach on Saturday, then sunday I headed up to the mountains to visit Sam and her family. Its a long way to drive for a few hours visiting, but worth it on a day like Sunday.

Camping at One Tree |
February 26, 2005 |
More trip photos and camping photos here.
Well the week had been pretty standard up until Thursday morning. Prior to this though, I had decided to take a day off on Friday and head off camping Thursday night, to One Tree. So after being told on Thursday morning that our office was going to be closing in July, there was no reason to net get away from the office nice and early :)
The run down to Jervis Bay was quick, no traffic on the road, although I did need to make a stop along the way at home as I had forgotten to take my camera lenses! But it is along the way so no harm!
I lef the office about 3pm, and arrived at the camp site at 5pm. The track to the cam site is about 3km long and is sometimes difficult to traverrse due to rain. Well there was a little water this time, but nothing major and I got to the waters edge without any issues. The only problems were due to the abundant undergrowth encroaching on the track!

Stormy Saturday |
February 19, 2005 |
Well I spent most of the morning trying to reinstall windows on my desktop PC. It had become a little unreliable so took advantage of the weekend to get the job done. Well I had no end of trouble, and two installs later, 4am bed time, and much frustration, I finally have it going again!
The trouble maker is the Hauppuage TV card I have installed. It is the main thing I use the PC for, so I had to get it working!
So after I finally got it worted, Kathy convinced me I should leave the house for at least a little while! As it had been a lovely warm morning, with the sun streaming into my office area.
After only a half hour down the beach though, a huge storm rolled in! I got off the beach in time, and was driving around just as the hail started! And this was serious hail! I got the car home covered it up a little, but gave up as I got hit once in the face and one on the hand by large marbles of ice! I havent checked the car yet for dents, but I am sure there will be a few more than the last hail storm :)
And another victim of the storm, was Kathy and Graham Chili :( I watched as their leaves were destroyed by the ice storm right before my very eyes.
There was also lots of thunder and lightning, which I recorded, and when I get some time, I'll get them on the PC and up here on the blog.

Slowly Moving |
January 30, 2005 |
Well the movement to the new blog format is taking shape. I have all the entries now imported into the MT database. Also played with the template formats so I knew what I was doing for the site face lift.
In between all this, I've been out taking a few pictures this weekend of the local area, the local fauna, and some new shots of the chili plants from eddy.

I Do I Do |
January 16, 2005 |
So this weekend had a very major event. The wedding of my youngest sister. She was marrying Craig Green, and turning me into the last unwed heathcote in the family!
The weekend went very well, at least it did from our persepctive. I think Sarah was very stressed, but everyone really had a great time and the whole even went perfectly.
The guys came around my place about midday, at which point we put on a movie, and started to relax. Of course the girls had started getting ready at 8:30 with the visit to the hairdresser! We eventually fired up the BBQ and had some lunch, then started getting ready for the wedding at about 2:00pm.
Of course we still managed to get to the church while it was still locked up! My job then was to set my car up at the church that was listed on the invitation, with signs pointing the guest to the correct church!!
The ceremony went perfectly. Which would not have been the case if Sarah had seen the huntsman on the ceiling above her head ;)
The night was then spent partying at the Workers club until middnight. We all had a great time, even Jayden who managed to keep his eyes open pretty much for the whole night!

Happy New Year |
January 01, 2005 |
Well it had to come to an end, and the year of 2004 is now behind us. To see in the new year, Darren and I went up to Wollongong to join the thousands of others partying at Wollongong South Beach. There was a stage with band playing, some rides, and of course, the fireworks!

Day of Big Things |
December 13, 2004 |
First thing that happened today was the delivery of my new laptop :) Was expecting it to arrive last friday, but instead it came in first thing monday morning. Glad it is here finally, and now tapping out this message to my blog. It's pretty good, nice screen, but I'm having a shit of a time getting my home network up and running! I think network security is the death of us all!!
Next even of the day was a visit to my accountant to lodge my tax returns for 2003 and 2004! Yes I know thats pretty late, but I had more important things to do! Fortunately, it looks like I have about $1000 coming my way!! Which is exactly the amount I needed to get a years membership, and a free set of golf clubs at the Shellharbour Links Golf Club!! Whoohooo!!
Finally, it is monday night so time for netball. We played an excellent game, and came away with a solid win. But then on the way home, I drove through an incredibly violent rain storn! At one stage I was watching a bus dissapear under water on one side of the road, when I looked back, three cars in front of me had locked up their brakes and also dissapearing into a river across the road!! Lucky I had just been going through the emergency stopping procedure in my head (yeah true story, pretty pathetic hey!) so I managed to pull up before hitting anyone. Then I just pushed on through the water, it wasn't too deep, but the other cars looked a little timid! Then for the next 5km, there was a heap of water over the road, and everyone was taking it pretty easy. Then as we passed Port Kembla golf club, the rain and water dissapeared! And above, I could see stars!! It was quite incredible. And once I got home, the roads were dry. But up above, there is this incredible storm cloud, with a large amount of lightning illuminating the sky.

Final Golf Round |
December 12, 2004 |
Golf this week was at Shellharbour Links and in the form of Ambrose. It's a rpetty tough course and Stewart and I were going along pretty well for the frist 5 or 6 holes. We were putting the pressure on the favorites with keeping a par score. But then something happened and we started to slip backwards fast! I think we then put too much pressure on oursevles thinking we were doing badly. But of course that was only doing badly to Darren and Justin who ended up winning by more than 7 strokes!

A week of sporting wins |
December 08, 2004 |
Two games this week with two positive results. Firstly Netball on monday, Leon got his wish and won a well played game convincingly in the end. Then tonight we had a win at Touch Footy. Another well played game which we won pretty well. Unfortunately I let one try in when I slipped over in the wet conditions and missed a touch. Fortunately the game was already won at that stage so it made little impact in the end! But it will be off to the shoe shop for some proper boots later this week!
In other sporting events, our evening at the driving range was not a huge success, but it has given me some things to work on and I'm hoping to get up there again tomorrow night. All in preparation for the final big match on Sunday!!

Christmas Party |
December 05, 2004 |
Party time is upon us, and this weekend was the work party. We had a lot of fun with this one, and with a theme of HAIR, it was up to your imagination on how you dressed up! And Mick actually shaved the top of his head and created the comb over affect! It was quite a brave move!
Not sure what time we finished at the leagues club, but we backed up then to The Oxford and kept going there until we were kicked out at closing. Giving Paul M (aka Phillipe) just enough time to meet wonderful Franchesca!
More photos from the party can be found in the photo album.

Touch Footy |
December 01, 2004 |
Well my first game of touch tonight and unfortunately we lost, but only just, 6-5. The game was much faster than I was expecting, and found myself running backwards way more often than forwards! But I made sure I played in the middle a bit, and even managed to talk a lovely ball over the line to score a try. I really didn't do much to get there, and after the game I was told that debutants really needed to score twice to be signed for the season :)
I'm sure I'll feel the pain tomorrow though, and will have to add a bit more sprinting to my training schedule! And backwards sprinting too! Looking forward to next week though, and I'm sure getting some propper shoes will give me the edge I am looking for :)

Summer in Sydney |
November 14, 2004 |
A quick trip to Sydney this weekend to check out the harbour and take some pics of the Opera House and the Bridge. The weather looks good, but it was blowing a real gale all afternoon!
Once I was done in Sydney, it was off to David and Rachels house warming party where I met some interesting characters.

Broken Bones, Broken Dreams... |
November 10, 2004 |
It has not been a very exciting week for me so far. On monday night I rolled my ankle again, I've lost count on how many times this has happened to my right ankle, but this time it was enough to reduce my normal enthusiastic running self into not much more than an ornament on the court. Not only that but it has kept me out of basketball, and an inter-office golf challenge this week too.
It seems to be responding well to treatment, but I think it will be another week or two before its back to its usual 75% sufficency level.
Also this week at work we've been doing performance reviews, and this is always a bit of a drag. I've almost finished mine now, just got a lot of typing to go. And ohhh, that Michael, am I going to make up some rubbish about him!!!
One good thing that is coming up though is next weeks road trip to The Gold Coast! Darren and I are taking the long drive up the coast to attend the Revetec AGM which is being held in their new Gold Coast headquarters. It's going to be a long drive up Thursday night, with a quick swim to refresh on Friday morning before hitting the meeting. We are then planning to stay friday night, and hit the casino to pay for the trip :) One down side is that we will be up there during Schoolies week ;)

Birdie Time |
October 31, 2004 |
This weekend was quite a busy one, spending most of Saturday running around the shops. Then in the evening I attended Chris and Yvonnes kitchen warming party.
Golf on Sunday started well, despite the very early morning due to daylight savings kicking in! But once I hit the back nine, it turned out to be a day to forget!! The round was punctated by my first birdie in morden times, and a very good par after hitting a pretty special 5 iron shot!

Long Load Weekend |
October 16, 2004 |
This weekend, I was asked to help dad move an avairy from his place up to Sams in the mountains. He did all the prep work during the week, pulling dow the avairy and getting it ready to load up in the back of the car. I wasn't quite sure how big this thing was going to be though and was a little surprised once we loaded it up!
The trip took us about two hours, not too much longer than normal but we had to stop several times to adjust the ropes and make sure we didn't create any road side disasters!
Once in the mountains, we put the avairy up after having a nice lunch and checking out the lovely views.

Weekend Of Activity |
September 26, 2004 |
This weekend was perfect weather, so I thought I would head up to Bowral to check out this years Tulip festival. As usual, it was very busy and very colourful! Good opportunity for me to test out the new camera.
After Saturday at Bowral, it was time to get out to Calderwood for another game of golf for the Sand Wedge golf club. And the days weather could not have been better!

Spring Storms |
September 05, 2004 |
Well only a few days into spring and we had a pretty cool spring storm today. Lots of lightening and thunder, but now the sun is out once again. It describes this weekend quite well. After spending a good day yesterday hiking in the mountains, I walked outside this morning to find out that some young holigans had broken into my car. Fortunately nothing broken, and for some reason nothing of value taken! But makes you wonder why people will risk getting caught for no gain.
Mmmmm, the smell of freshly baking cake is calling me, I must go make sure I dont burn it! Having Bec, Sam and possibly Darren over for dinner tonight with Lasagne on the menu, who could stay away!
Well dinner did go well, I dont have to try hard in the kitchen, I guess some people are blessed with having cooking skills, and some are blessed with eating skills :) Well I am glad I have both!
Thanks Sam and Bec, you know you are welcome anytime, to eat, or to just hang out :)
But still waiting for a tear jerking Idol performance!!

Camping In The Mountains |
August 27, 2004 |
I Finally got away for the weekend, very important to test out the new camera! I managed to see the Walls, the bush, and have a car accident! It was pretty cold with a thick frost on the first night, but beautiful blue skies during the day made up for that.
