Hidden Valley Hiking

February 23, 2007

This weekend we are heading off on another hiking trip to the Budawangs. This time we are heading into the park from the Sassafras entrance, and going to be walking through Newhaven Gap, past Quilty's Mountain and into the Hidden Valley.

We are expecting the walk to be of medium grade, with a total of about 26km to cover in the two days.

Of course there will be a complete trip report and photos to follow some time after the trip is complete.

But you can find some examples of what we will be seeing here:

New camping equipment

February 21, 2007

I've recently been replacing some of my aging camping equipment, and also buying some things that I never had before. This is all in preparation for a long hiking trip in Tasmania in the very near future.

The new equipment that I have picked up this week include:

  • Camping stove - Snow Peak brand, just 88 grams in weight

  • Camping pots - Snow Peak brand, all titanium including billy and cup

  • Fleece - Lowe Alpine, very very light, and warm

  • Shirt - Lowe Alpine, hiking shirt with lots of pockets and ventilation

The effect is very eay to acheive using most photo editing applications. Here I provide a tutorial to achieve the effect using Photoshop CS2.
