Camping at One Tree

February 26, 2005

More trip photos and camping photos here.

Well the week had been pretty standard up until Thursday morning. Prior to this though, I had decided to take a day off on Friday and head off camping Thursday night, to One Tree. So after being told on Thursday morning that our office was going to be closing in July, there was no reason to net get away from the office nice and early :)

The run down to Jervis Bay was quick, no traffic on the road, although I did need to make a stop along the way at home as I had forgotten to take my camera lenses! But it is along the way so no harm!

I lef the office about 3pm, and arrived at the camp site at 5pm. The track to the cam site is about 3km long and is sometimes difficult to traverrse due to rain. Well there was a little water this time, but nothing major and I got to the waters edge without any issues. The only problems were due to the abundant undergrowth encroaching on the track!

But once I got the water, there was nobody there so the rest of the day would be just perfect.

I set up camp at the usual spot which is only metres from the water, and nice and flat. I collected the timber required to keep the dinner warm, and the evil criters at bay ;)

After getting the fire going, I went straight to the water for a swim. It was extremly warm, with zero chil factor! I would have put it at 24-25 degrees! So there was plenty of time spent in the water :)

I decided that due to the days activities, it was time to drink a lot of beer :) And managed to succeed beyond my expectations ;) The night was really warm, with possums wandering around my camp site all night going through empty cans, and cleaning my dirt plates :)

I woke early, around 7am when a fisherman buzzed up and down Swan Bay. But since it was still pretty warm I decided to get up and go for another swim :)

During the mornings activities, I actually spotted a couple of Kangaroos, one carrying a Joey. They were just casually grazing on the grass around the camp. At one stage they were only 20 metres away, which is quite unusal for wild kangaroos. Unlike the possum last night that almost took food from my own mouth!

During the morning it looked like the weather might be turning bad, so I packed up camp ready to leave, rahter than hang around and let everything get wet. Then I just kicked back for the rest of the day and relaxed in the hammock.

Eventually left camp around 4:30pm

Brilliant photos. undergrowth is heavier than I have seen it in years!
